IBM Maximo gives the insight to maintain our infrastructure smarter and faster.

Provincie Overijssel manages an extensive network of roads, waterways, and civil structures, making efficient asset maintenance a complex task. To gain better visibility and control, the province implemented IBM Maximo, integrating it with digital inspection tools. This move enabled faster response to field observations, improved planning, and a more proactive, data-driven approach to infrastructure management.

To manage its extensive infrastructure network more efficiently, Provincie Overijssel implemented IBM Maximo, integrated with digital inspection tools and GIS systems. This solution enabled real-time insights, automated work order creation, and proactive maintenance planning. The result: improved asset visibility, faster response times, and streamlined infrastructure management.

Challenge: clear line of sight and efficient maintenance

A provincial authority with an extensive and diverse network of mobility infrastructure – including hundreds of kilometers of roads, cycle paths, waterways, and a significant number of civil engineering structures and traffic control systems – faced the complex task of managing this area efficiently and effectively. The manual processing of inspection data and the initiation of maintenance work orders were time-consuming and prone to delays. There was a need for an integrated solution to optimize the lifespan of the infrastructure, control costs, and ensure safety.

  • The Solution
In 2020, the implementation of a new Management System, based on the IBM Maximo Application Suite, was initiated. This robust solution is specifically designed for the professional asset management of roads, civil engineering structures, and waterways. A crucial functionality within the implementation is the seamless integration with a digital inspection app. Observations recorded during field inspections are now automatically processed within Maximo.
  • The Results|
Through the implementation of IBM Maximo, in combination with the digital inspection app and integrations with ArcGIS and the ObjectTypeLibrary, the provincial authority has achieved significant improvements:
  • Direct Action on Observations|
Findings from the inspection app directly lead to automated work orders in Maximo, enabling maintenance work to be assigned to contractors more quickly.
  • Optimized Maintenance
The system provides a complete overview of the infrastructure’s condition, allowing maintenance to be planned and executed more proactively and efficiently.
  • Improved Decision-Making
Thanks to the integration with ArcGIS, there is a clear geographical visualization of the assets and their associated maintenance status. The ObjectTypeLibrary ensures uniform data and reporting, leading to better-informed decisions.
  • More Efficient Processes
The automation of the workflow, from inspection to work order placement, has significantly reduced administrative burdens and shortened the turnaround time of maintenance projects.
  • Integrated Asset Management
IBM Maximo offers a central platform for all aspects of asset management, resulting in a better overview, more control, and higher quality management of the valuable mobility infrastructure.

This project, which runs from 2020 to the present, demonstrates how a strategic deployment of IBM Maximo, combined with smart integrations, enables a provincial authority to manage its extensive mobility infrastructure more effectively and sustainably.
